Hi, my name is Stephen

and I'm going to be your teacher.

Welcome to aupairfamily.com.

This is the more advanced lesson.

In these lessons I want to look at

adjectives and prepositions.

Some phrasal verbs and some idiomatic expressions

that are really going to help add to your vocabulary

and to the richness of your conversation.

So let's start with some

adjectives and prepositions.

It's very common sometimes that

we have an adjective and it's followed by

a preposition, so lest's look at

the prepositionABOUT“.

Now let's look at some adjectives

that come beforeabout“.

That we find and we use them

commonly in every day conversation.

Ok, let's pick these six adjectives:

So we have ANGRY

ANXIOUS

CERTAIN

EXCITED

SERIOUS

and it's very common for these adjectives

to be followed byabout“.

So let's take them individually.

If you're angry, something

makes you angry, you're

angry about something.

I'm angry about my job.

I'm angry about the problem

I'm having with the bank.

You're angry about something.

If it's someone, we, changed the preposition,

angry WITH someone.

So here we're going to be angry about something.

Anxious is also similar, anxious, so kind of nervous,

an uncomfortable feeling you apprehensive,

you're not sure what's going to happen.

You're kind of stressed about

something that's in the future.

You're anxius about an exam,

you're anxious about meeting your family

that your're going to work with.

You're anxious about minding the children.

It's like a nervous energy, a nervous feeling.

So, you're going to be anxious about something.

Certain about something is that you know

for sure that it happened or

you're confident in your opinion about something.

I'm certain about what time I left the house.

I'm certain about the answer to this question.

So it's 100% for sure, you know this.

Excited about it's kind of similar to angry

and anxious, but you're excited about something.

Your hopeful, you've got energy, it's a good thing,

you want this thing to happen.

So you might be excited

about moving to a new country,

or you might be excited about meeting your family.

You might be excited about living in

an English speaking country.

Serious about, is an adjective that

describes your emotion about something.

It's not funny, it's not a joke, it's serious.

And if you're serious about something

either it can mean that this isn't funny,

you're serious about this situation,

or that you are very focused about something.

I'm serious about my course.

I'm serious about going back to college.

I'm not joking about going back to college,

I'm serious about it.

Or you're serious about learning English.

You're taking it seriously.

So these are some common adjectives

that are followed by the word about.

Let's look at another preposition,

let's take the prepositionAT“.

So we've got some adjectives that we used

in the first one and we can compare them.

ANGRY AT,

ANNOYED AT,

BAD AT,

GOOD AT,

SURPRISED AT.

So the first one was angry about,

you're angry about something.

You're angry at someone.

I'm angry at my mother, I'm angry at my father.

They did something and I'm angry at them.

Annoyed at, it's similar to angry

except annoyed is less strong

but it's still strong.

It's not strong as angry it's a

slightly different emotion.

Angry is more aggressive.

Bad at, I'm bad at dancing.

I'm bad at speaking French.

I'm bad at cooking.

Things that you feel that

what you do, it's not so good.

You're bad at it.

I'm bad at playing sports.

The opposite then, is good.

I'm good at meeting new people.

I'm good at making a cup of tea.

I'm good at painting.

I'm good at playing music.

Surprised at is your reaction to something,

I'm surprised at this person.

I didn't think that this person

would act this way, I'm surprised at them.

Or you're surprised at a situation.

So there's another 5 adjectives

that are followed by five prepositions.
