we are gonna look at linking words that will help you to add extra information. Now linking
words are also called as connecting words in English and it helps you to give an idea
to what you are saying so people can understand you better. Linking words or connecting words
can be used for various reasons. Of course it can be used to add information it can be
also used to give reasons, to give examples or to just conclude something. So these are
very helpful especially when you want to speak English fluently. SO there are very simple
words and once you know them you will never fall short of words especially when you want
to add extra information. So lets's have a look.
The very first one is and of course its the most simple and the most common word used
in English. So we use the word and -it is a linking word or a connecting word which
helps you to add information. So we have an example here on the board. We spoke about
training, sales and the budget. So you want to add about what you spoke about. You spoke
about training you also spoke about sales and you spoke about the budget. so we end
up using the linking word and. Now remember when you are writing and using the word and
never ever put a comma before and. many people do this, it's absolutely incorrect. Don;t
do that never put a comma. Of course there will be a comma between different things but
the moment you use the word and there will be no comma. Okay
The next one also. Also is another linking word that can be used to add that extra information
or to put a little more emphasis. Now we also spoke about sales projection. So of course
when you are talking to someone, probably there was a meeting the company and you all
spoke about training, you all spoke about sales , you all spoke about the budget and
now you want to add that extra information that you spoke about - sales projection also.
So you gonna say "Oh we also spoke about sales projection. So you use the linking word also.
Now remember we do not use 'also in the beginning of a sentence. never start your sentence,
although many people do that but try to avoid it. Never start your sentence with also. You
can also use the word also with not only. For example - we not only spoke about training
but also about sales projection. SO that;s how you can use both the words in one sentence.
The next one - In addition. Now as I mentioned usually in English we do
not start the sentence with also but instead of that you can the word ' In addition' the
phrase 'In addition' In addition is another linking word and how
you can use it - In addition to this we discussed team building - That's too much of discussion!
So in addition to this we are using the linking word or the connecting word In addition to
this we discussed team building which of course it also means also. Right! you are adding
that extra information. The next one as well as - Now as well as can
come right in the front of a sentence right at the beginning and it can also come in the
middle, both are correct. You can start your sentence with as well as but you can also
use as well as in the middle. let's look at the example here - We are interested in cost
as well as quality. It means that you are not just interested in cost but also quality
and to add that extra information you have used the linking phrase or the connecting
phrase 'as well as'.Hope that's clear to you let's have a look at another one here.
Too - Too is another very very common word used in English. Remember the word too comes
at the end of a sentence or it comes after a subject. So you never start your sentence
with the word too. Too ...that's just weird. You can use the word too at the end of the
sentence or you can use after the subject. And the word too is another linking word that
can be used to add that extra information. So let's look at the example on the board
here- I too was concerned about the production delay. So it was not just my team members
but I too it means that i am adding that extra information that I too was concerned about
the production delay. So if you say I too after the subject that is correct. Right!
Now let's have a look at the last one - Moreover or furthermore. Both are linking words or
connecting words and they can be used interchangeably because they mean the same. when do we use
these two words? Moreover or furthermore we use it especially when you have made a point
but you want to emphasize on something else as well, so you make a statement and you emphasize
by making another statement. Look at the example here you will get an idea. Marketing plans
give us an idea moreover they tell us about market segmentation. So here you have made
a point, you are clear you made a statement that marketing plans five us an idea. Now
to connect and you want to add that extra emphasis it's gonna be moreover they tell
us about market segmentation. Either you can use the word moreover or you can use the word
furthermore. So it helps you when you have already made a point but you still want to
add that extra information or put an emphasis on the point that you just made.
So you got that right, So these are the linking words that you can use to add extra information
So hope you don't fall short of words especially when you want to say something more. So go
